Founded in 2008 by the Vancouver Canucks co-owners, the Canucks Autism Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing high quality sports, recreational, and social programs for individuals and families living with autism.
With 150 full-time and contract staff, CAN supports over 1000 families with programs in communities all around British Columbia. CAN’s goal is to reach all families living with autism in British Columbia. To achieve that goal they need to have support from the community in order to raise the necessary funds.
Previously, CAN was limited with how they could collect funds while attending community events. With fewer people using cash and with bank machines not always accessible, it became evident that to achieve their fundraising goals CAN needed a better way to collect donations outside of the office.
In 2012, CAN began to research options for a payment solution. After seeing Payfirma’s mobile payments solution at an event, CAN considered using it for themselves.
Payfirma was able to offer CAN the best rates along with excellent customer service from a local team. By using Payfirma’s mobile payments solution, CAN representatives were able to easily collect payments at events for ticket sales, silent auction checkout and fundraising. After adopting mobile payments into their event payment process, CAN discovered that people giving donations appreciated the convenience of using a credit card and as a result, were much more generous with their giving.
The number of events that CAN is able to participate in has grown significantly due to its ability to accept mobile payments. It also allows the organization to be more creative with where and how they raise funds knowing that they can use Payfirma to collect donations on the spot without having to worry about dealing with cash.
By using the Payfirma Mobile POS app, CAN is now able to successfully participate in over 10 large off-site fundraising events per year. CAN started with only 3 programs in three locations, and has since grown to over 20 programs in over 30 locations throughout the province and a membership base of approximately 1000 families.
Mobile payments are empowering CAN to run more efficiently, raise funds for their cause and change the lives of people living with autism for the better. To learn more about how you can support the Canucks Autism Network, visit their site.
